Outlook blocks attachments with a exclamation mark in the filename after the last Windows Update from 13.06.2017

The last windows/office update round from June 13th modified Outlook in a way that it blocks attachments which has a exclamation mark within its filename.
Just remove the exclamation mark from the filename and everything works again. Tested with Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010.

Message within Outlook (german Outlook): „Outlook hat den Zugriff auf die folgenden potenziell unsicheren Anlagen blockiert“ or „Outlook has blocked access to the following potentially unsafe attachments“

Temp user profile after Windows 10 upgrade

If you update a Windows 7 (8?) computer to the latest Windows 10 the current profile will work just fine. But I could happen that every other already used user profile on this computer is in the regitry but not in the user directory (check this in the %systemroot%\user directory). Windows 10 „thinks“ it’s a already known user profile but can’t find the user files. So it create a temp user profile.
The solution is to clean the profile list within the registry. Make a backup before you start and know what you are doing! Login with the working user. Start regedit and browse to HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows NT/Current Version/ProfileList. The you click on every subregistry key. The ProfileImagePath gives you a hint which user profile this subkey is. Delete the subkey from the user which don’t work (temp profile). Logout the current user and try to login with the „new“ user account. It should work now.

Windows 8 Pro with Media Center activation

The Windows 8 Pro activation of additional features is a bit dumb. Instead checking if the entered key is already used it just checks if the key is valid and then upgrades the Windows 8 Pro version to Windows 8 Pro with Media Center. Windows tries to activate the new key after the next reboot. If the key is already used your Windows isn’t activated anymore even with the bought Windows 8 Pro key. And the best of all you can’t go back. No system restore point or any other option. Just a reinstall of Windows helps.

Problem was the free MediaCenter (for a limited time) and only one key per email. So I used the same email for my desktop pc which I already used for my laptop. So I got the same key. It’s easy to get a new key with another email address but you have to wait up to three or more days until you get the new key.

Well, I got a new key and so I could reactivate Windows 8 again.
